I am a young Egyptian director. I was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, and have lived a very traditional,but modern life, with many stories rising from it. I was inspired by the world of art from a very young age, beginning at about age seven. Cartoons, sketching, and drawing influenced me to create, so I did. I was creating my own cartoons and sketches all throughout grade and high school, which led me to question: “Is there more than this?” I always wanted more art, more challenges, there was never enough. I finally found my calling in high school: I began directing, writing, and even drawing my comic books. Soon after, my artistic inspiration led me to apply to the Higher Institute of Applied Arts in Egypt in attempts to get my BA in Applied Arts. I was accepted, and sure enough, I followed my plans and exceeded expectations. I did study applied arts, as planned, but also grew curious of other fields such as: Fine Arts, and Painting. Basically, I got to know various fields of art step by step from something so basic as sketching. This is a prime example that inspiration is found in the strangest places. It all began with a sketch… then to a comic strip, writing, painting, and above all, directing. Small things like drawing my own comic books brought enough encouragement for me to further study the applied arts. I was certain that attending the Higher Institute of Applied Arts in Egypt would be important to me one day; I knew I must continue to follow my dreams, my natural talent, and ambitions- I should take advantage of what ability I have, and learn the correct processes and forms or art first hand. My first choice at the Institute was painting. At the Applied Art Institute, I had the opportunity to learn all about various paintings and artists through the centuries. One of my greatest influences was, and still is, Salvador Dali; he exposed me to my interest in semiotic, which is the core of surrealism. In 2006, I made history with one of my films at the Academy. I was the very first student of Applied Art Schools in Egypt who made a short film based of cinema semiotic (defined as -depending on symbols and dream language). The film I am known for is called: Naked In The Dark. This particular film depicts the pain of the soul and its’ relevance to the pain of the human body. The pain of the human soul is always more damaging than any type of physical pain. The body can heal itself, but the soul cannot. Though I had completed my BA at the Higher Institute of Applied Art in Egypt, I still had dreams that were unfulfilled. I was completely obsessed with the American film industry, and could not learn enough about it here in Cairo. What better way to learn the industry than to apply to an art school in America? I soon got the chance to move to America and follow my dreams. I began attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California- the biggest art school in the world. During this time, I worked for a master in Motion Picture and Television. There, I got the chance to work on a lot of filming projects: some were for myself some were for miscellaneous directors. Also, I worked on many short films and music videos. Then, I thought of pausing my school to work on my own projects in order to develop myself prior introducing myself to the Hollywood Industry. Now I am focusing on writing short and feature films to present my own ideas and theories to the audience.
